Having a spot in the delivery room can mean a lot to family and friends, but choosing who to have present can be tough and lead to some awkwardness. First, ask yourself what you’re comfortable with. You’re about to go through a lot, so it’s important that surround yourself with a space that supports you and doesn’t add any stress.
Then, if you’re planning to deliver outside of your home at a hospital or birthing center, check their rules. Many have regulations limiting the number of people who can be present. And even if they don’t, it’s a good excuse to give out if you don’t want to feel crowded.
Most people choose to have their partner present in the delivery room. Less common, but still popular, options include parents, in-laws, siblings, close friends, and midwives and/or doulas. Ultimately, it’s up to you!
